  9. This neckrest is carved from one piece of wood. It represents a house that is built on stilts so wild animals can‚Äôt get inside.

A neckrest is a typical piece of household furniture among the Yaka people. It is used by people who wear elaborate hairdos and headpieces which need protection when they sleep. The sleeper lies on his or her side. The neckrest supports the head just below the ear, preventing the head from touching the ground.
